According to the Center for Science in the Public Interest, most Chinese dishes are
deep-fried, high in calories and saturated fat and loaded with sodium. An order of General Tso’s chicken, for example, contains more than 1,000 calories, 11 grams of saturated fat and 3,200 milligrams of sodium. Combination fried rice is even worse: 1,500 calories, 10 grams of saturated fat and 2,700 milligrams of sodium. A typical meal at a Chinese restaurant, including appetizer, entrée and fried rice contains more than 2,000 calories, 20 grams of saturated fat and 3,000 milligrams of sodium. Ordering Chinese is a wonderful treat, but don’t make it a habit if you want to stay fit and healthy. (New York Daily News, March 22, 2007)
