(Ski Press)-Liberty University in Lynchburg,
Virginia announced this week that the school will soon unveil a
40,537-square-foot area of Snowflex-covered slope for year-round
shredding.
Expected to be completed in January, Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr., told
the Associated Press that the year-round ski slope will help Liberty
break the stereotype "that Christian education is synonymous with
boredom."
The Discovery Channel is documenting this historic event, filming
portions of the construction to air on a future episode of “Daily
Planet.”
Invented by Brian Thomas of Briton Engineering, Snowflex is a
multi-layer, synthetic material that simulates the effects of snow,
allowing maximum speed and edge control for making turns. With the help
of small misting devices, Snowflex stays moist, giving it the slip and
grip of real snow.
According to the school's website, "While on LU’s campus, prospective
students, current students, alumni and their families can spend quality
time together, taking full advantage of everything the slope offers,
including skiing, snowboarding and tubing.
