Formoterol (Foradil) is a fast-acting, long-lasting drug that opens the airways in the lungs. It’s used to treat people with asthma and acts like the fight-or-flight hormone adrenaline.
Australian scientists found that formoterol also has therapeutic potential for treating muscle wasting or weakness. The drug triggers significant side effects include anxiety, elevated heart rate and low blood potassium. (British Journal Pharmacology, 147:587-595, 2006)
