Australian researchers found that creatine and whey protein — by themselves or taken together — increase muscle strength compared to a supplement containing only carbohydrate. Combining whey with creatine was only marginally more effective than either supplement taken alone. Most gains in strength were attributed to training, but the supplements were definitely effective. A good strategy for maximizing training gains and promoting recovery is to take a whey protein shake with a teaspoon of creatine immediately after training.
