Viagra gave aging Romeos a sexual second wind, but the erection-promoting medication is the recreational drug of choice for many young party animals.
Just like some wannabe bodybuilders use steroids so they don’t have to work so hard in the gym, many young studs use Viagra, Cialis and Levitra as sexual crutches. Turkish researchers found that young men who used Viagra recreationally had less confidence in their capacity for erections and were often psychologically addicted to the drug. Surprisingly, these young men were more sexually active and had a better capacity for getting and maintaining erections than normal. The study showed that many young men use erection-promoting drugs to prevent performance anxiety and to have more sex. If casual sex were an Olympic sport, drugs like Viagra would be on the banned list. (International Journal Impotence Research, 19: 591–596, 2007)
