The National Bureau of Economic Research in Boston found that good sex is critical to happiness in men and women. Poor sexual satisfaction is linked to a lower quality of life, poor self-esteem, depression, anxiety and rocky relationships. If good sex is central to happiness, why is it so empty and unfulfilling for so many men? Brazilian scientists found that lack of sexual satisfaction was linked to sexual performance problems such as premature ejaculation and erectile dysfunction. More than 50 percent of men reported sexual dysfunction that impacted their satisfaction with sex. Sex problems are often due to poor metabolic health caused by obesity, lack of exercise and poor diet. In young men, poor sexual performance is usually linked to inexperience and psychological hang-ups about sex. Sex is still a taboo subject, even in this so-called “sexually enlightened” time. This is unfortunate, because sexual intimacy is part of a healthy lifestyle. (Journal Sexual Medicine, 4:382-389, 2007)
