Confucius say, “Virginity like bubble…one prick, all gone.” Two of the Bush administration’s central policies have been abstinence from sex before marriage and “just say no to drugs.” These policies are not working, according to a survey conducted by the National Center for Health Statistics. Only 4 percent of adults in the United States are virgins, while 20 percent have used hard drugs like cocaine and crack. Men had an average of seven sex partners, while women had four, but 29 percent of men and 9 percent of women had 15 or more sex partners. Americans aren’t very monogamous, with only 17 percent of men and 25 percent of women sticking with one partner for a lifetime. Not everyone is romping in the hay: 15 percent of men and 18 percent of women hadn’t had sex in one year. Old guys over 50 are getting plenty of action, with 83 percent claiming they had sex at least once last year. The survey polled 6,237 adults aged 20 through 59. We made up the part about rock and roll because it sounds good. (Reuters, June 23, 2007)
